One Book, One Philadelphia Kickoff Event

  • Parkway Central Library 1901 Vine Street Philadelphia, PA, 19103 United States (map)

Jacqueline Woodson is the first author to have her books chosen for all three One Book, One Philadelphia selections: she has written this year’s featured book, Another Brooklyn, as well as the middle-grade and children’s companions Brown Girl Dreaming and This Is the Rope. To kick-off eight weeks of inspired performances, workshops and discussions, she will be joined by WHYY’s Annette John-Hall in lively conversation around the common themes that her writing for readers of all ages covers. The evening will conclude with a performance inspired by the book from 2016-17 Philadelphia Poet Laureate, Yolanda Wisher, and members of her band, The Afroeaters.
